Blade Pitch Accuracy
The MED-LOGICS Calibrated LASIK Blade (CLB®) offers unmatched accuracy to help maximize the performance of your microkeratome.
The most critical dimension of the LASIK blade is from its datum to the cutting edge because this dimension is directly related to the projected depth of cut. This dimension is commonly referred to as the “Blade Pitch.” When developing its LASIK blade design, MED-LOGICS found that many of the traditional LASIK blades have a range as wide as +/-50 microns in the projected depth of cut. The CLB® was originally introduced at a tolerance of +/- 10 microns in the projected depth of cut, but through new technologies and continuous improvement have taken newer models to an amazing +/- 5 microns in the projected depth of cut.
CustomFlap® Options
It is now possible to create a CustomFlap® with the treatment options offered by the variety of Plus, Minus, and PLANO CLB® models from MED-LOGICS. Because of our advanced assembly process, resulting in more accurate LASIK blades, MED-LOGICS has been able to take the CLB® to the next level in offering surgeons the ability to customize the flap to all of their patients. Since all corneas are not the same, treatment options are critical to attain optimal results.
The PLANO CLB® is used when the surgeon wants to create a flap that approximates the average flap thickness produced by the given keratome head, but with a much tighter tolerance.
The Minus CLB® models can be used to create thinner flaps and maximize the amount of residual stroma. Another use of the Minus CLB® is to adjust for patients with thicker corneas, who would normally generate a thicker flap because of the compression that occurs during the microkeratome pass. Using a Minus CLB® on thicker corneas and a PLANO on more average corneas will help a surgeon reduce the deviation in flap thickness between patients.
The Plus CLB® model can be used in cases when there is a need to create a thicker flap than the microkeratome head usually creates. This can be especially beneficial in cases where the surgeon must cut below an original flap depth to re-treat a patient.
Flap Thickness Predictability
The MED-LOGICS CLB® offers unparalleled flap thickness predictability. Because of the unmatched precision in the Blade Pitch of the CLB®, the surgeon and patient benefit from greater repeatability and predictability of the flap thickness.
The chart above shows data for the ML7090 CLB® to be over twice as accurate as an OEM blade for the same microkeratome. This was a direct comparison study using the same surgeons and same piece of equipment.
