Article: Blade source effect on LASIK flap thickness with the Amadeus I microkeratome (VIEW)

This article, published in the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, shows the results of a study at Emory University comparing the flap thickness created in the Amadeus microkeratome using the Surepass blades from Surgical Instrument Systems and distributed by AMO and the ML7090 CLB® from MED-LOGICS, Inc. The study concluded that the Amadeus I microkeratome created thinner, more consistent flaps with the ML7090 CLB® than with the Surepass blade.

This study is presented in a purely graphic format to highlight the dramatic difference between using the OEM blade and the ML7090 CLB® in the Amadeus microkeratome. In over 300 eyes, the Laservue Refractive Surgery Clinic in Montreal, Canada, found that the standard deviation of the flap thickness was less than half of that of the OEM blade.

Surgical Video: Femtosecond Laser (VIEW VIDEO)

This short, 48 second, video shows a LASIK procedure using a femtosecond laser. Viewers will notice the roughness of the stromal bed and the force required to lift the flap.

Surgical Video: Antonio Mendez, M.D. using the ML7 Microkeratome (VIEW VIDEO)

Dr. Mendez constructed this video showing several LASIK procedures using the ML7 microkeratome. He varies the hinge location, flap thickness, and diameter, depending on the patients’ needs. In all cases, the ML7 microkeratome creates smooth, accurate flaps with ease.

Surgical Video: L. Shawn Wong, M.D. using the ML7 Microkeratome (VIEW VIDEO)

Dr. Wong constructed this video showing the flap creation using the ML7 microkeratome. He marks the cornea to line it up with the marks on the ML7 vacuum ring, making centering the ring quick and simple. After the correction, Dr. Wong easily lays the flap back into the pronounced trough created by the ML7 microkeratome.
